I’m part of a book club that meets every Saturday at Sugar & Spine Bakery. Last weekend, when I sat down at my usual spot, there was a beautiful handmade mug waiting for me — glazed in blue with a little stack of books painted on the side. No card, no name, nothing.

I asked the barista, and she said someone had come in on Tuesday and asked her to set it at my place before Saturday’s meeting. She couldn’t remember exactly who, just that it was “one of the book club regulars.”

The mug was wrapped in a torn-out page from our March book pick. Whoever did this clearly put some thought into it.
